My workshop class was tasked with producing anything related to the subject of nature. I chose to raise awareness about the overuse of plastic and the lack of a sustainable recycling program. I produced plastic waste with statistics and facts on the damaging effects to marine life.
- 3.4K glass beverage bottles found in beach cleanups.
- 1.15 to 2.41 million tons of plastic enters the oceans via rivers annually.
- 300 million tons of plastic is produced globally every year.
- 5.25 trillion estimated number of plastic particles currently float around in the world’s oceans.
- 100,000 marine mammals and turtles and 1 million sea birds are killed by marine plastic pollution annually.
Scientists have identified 200 areas declared as DEAD ZONES; where no organisms can now grow.
