A series of three rings all made from the required material for this project: paper.

Initially I wanted to test the strength of this everyday commodity, which made me think of the act of burning. Consequently, I came across Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy, inspiring me to follow his joureny through Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso, paralleled within my three rings.

INFERNO
9 rings of Hell chaining the sinner, fire weepings sitting like ash upon them.

“And to a place I come where nothing shines.” —DANTE

PURGATORIO
Dante makes his way into the limbo world of gray, Purgatorio, with remenants of his hellish journey thus far.

“…I am left with less than one drop of my blood that does not tremble. I recognize the signs of the old flame.” —DANTE

PARADISO
Finishing the journey of Dante, We have reached the divine Seventh Heaven; he has finally made his way to the Empyrean.

“For all those lights...began a song...that glides like falling leaves from memory.” —DANTE
